Sullivan & Worcester's New York Office Expands with Investment Management Duo

01.10.2019 | Press Release

Boston and New York – International law firm Sullivan & Worcester LLP announced today that Domenick Pugliese has joined the firm’s Investment Management Group as a partner in the New York City office. Pugliese’s colleague, Rachael L. Schwartz, is joining Sullivan as Counsel.

“Domenick and Rachael are strong additions to our rapidly expanding New York City office,” said Joel Carpenter, Sullivan’s managing partner. “A key component of the firm’s growth strategy is to expand our New York presence for marque practice groups like investment management – which already has successful, well-respected teams in Washington, DC, New York and Boston. With the addition of two more veteran practitioners, Sullivan has reinforced its reputation as having a top-tier national investment management capability.”

Pugliese is joining Sullivan from Schiff Hardin where he was a partner. His practice is focused on advising and representing registered investment companies such as mutual funds and exchange traded funds as well as advising independent trustees and directors of mutual funds and variable annuity trusts regarding the Investment Company Act and Investment Advisers Act regulation and compliance.  His clients include mutual funds, closed-end funds, exchange-traded funds, and business development companies.

“Clients are looking at diverse structures to bring their products to market and Sullivan has the depth and breadth of experience to help them do that” Pugliese said. “I’ve worked with several lawyers on Sullivan’s investment management team and am happy now to be able to call them colleagues.”

Pugliese sees the market continuing to explore the registered fund space, with interval fund structures and business development structures gaining traction. Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) will continue to grow, though at a slower pace as smaller managers find less opportunity, he predicts.

Pugliese received his J.D, with honors, from George Washington University Law School and earned his B.S. from State University of New York Binghamton.

Rachael L. Schwartz also comes to Sullivan from Schiff Hardin, where she was Counsel. A significant portion of her practice is dedicated to providing counsel on the Investment Company Act of 1940 and related securities and corporate laws. She serves as independent counsel to directors of mutual funds and variable insurance trusts.

Schwartz earned her J.D. at Washington University School of Law; her M.B.A. from Duke University Fuqua School of Business; and her B.A in Japanese Studies from Wellesley College, cum laude.
